Toshiba has just introduced a new series of MG08-D drives. This is a high-performance drive intended for small and medium-sized businesses.
Features of the new generation MG08-D
It is a disc in form 3.5” he’s got 7 200 tr / minute with a mean time between failures or MTBF (mean time between failures) estimated at 2 million hours. This drive is therefore ideal for SMB servers. This new disc model offers higher performance and price-performance ratio compared to the previous generation. The new MG08-D series is available in capacities ranging from 4, 6 and 8 TB. The links used are SATA3 allowing transfer rate 6 Gbps one you SAS which can transfer data to 12 Gps.
Uses and benefits of these MGO8-D drives
These disks can be used in local server storage systems, clouding, disk bays, etc. When used in an existing RAID redundancy system, the characteristics of the sectors must be considered for optimized performance. So 4 TB drives have 512n (512 real bytes), 512e (512 emulated bytes) and 4Kn (real 4Kn) sectors. The 6TB and 8TB come in 512e and 4Kn.
This disk is characterized by the lowest energy consumption. This comes from the new air filling system implemented by Toshiba for the new generation drives. The disc chamber is therefore filled with air and then sealed. This drive will be released in the first quarter of 2021.
