SSD

Oops, more confusing naming schemes

The Samsung 970 EVO is definitely not PCIe 5.0, but ADATA’s Legend 970 certainly is. As with many other PCIe 5.0 drives, it’s actively cooled with a fan powered by a SATA port, considering they’re sitting around doing nothing. This approximately 11cm tall fan and heatsink keeps the SSD at 68C under full load, a little hot but within spec so you don’t have to worry about thermal throttling.

FPS Review saw random read speeds of up to 10,079 MB/s and 10,192 MB/s write on CrystalDiskMark, so the Legend 970 lives up to its promise. This performance can be tweaked using the ADATA SSD Toolbox, which also lets you clone an existing drive to your new Legend 970. The 2TB model they reviewed retails for $260, expensive compared to previous SSD generations, but reasonable compared to other PCIe 5.0 SSDs.
