CPU X Doesn’t Mark The Spot, Ryzen 7600, 7700 and 7900 – PC Perspective

Meet AMD’s Zen 4 65W processors

The original Zen 4 processors all had TDPs above 100W, with some closer to 200W, making them rather unsuitable for small builds. To fix this gap, AMD has released three new processors with a TDP of 65W for those looking for a less user-friendly build. Ryzen 5 7600, Ryzen 7 7700, Ryzen 9 7900 all have the same TDP, support DDR5 and ship with either the Wraith Stealth or Wraith Prism cooler in the box.

The Ryzen 5 7600 is clocked a bit lower than its X-carrying partner, 5.1GHz peak as opposed to 5.3GHz, but the cache and integrated GPU remain the same. The Ryzen 7 7700 loses 100MHz of its boost by comparison, running at 5.3GHz but as with the previous chip all other specs remain the same. Finally, the Ryzen 9 7900 drops to 5.4GHz from 5.6GHz, but other than that it matches the Ryzen 9 7900X.

Tweaktown tested all three with the latest and greatest processors from Intel and AMD, as well as some from the previous generation. When gaming at 1080p, you’re unlikely to see a difference, and while the chips do well in the other tests, they’re not as fast as their toasted brethren.

The prices suggest that AMD considers these processors to be of a different breed than the X-series processors. At $229, $329, and $429 respectively, they’re roughly $10 off CPUs with very similar names. If power consumption and thermals aren’t a major concern, you’re better off with the X, but if you’re building an SFF case, these are a superior choice.
