Supermassive Games’ Until Dawn and The Dark Pictures Anthology team will lay off 90 workers in the near future, it has been confirmed. The studio employs more than 300 people in Guildford, UK, and has told 150 of them they are “at risk” of being the 90 people who will soon lose their jobs.
The developer released a statement on Twitter shortly after the news broke Bloomberg. He explained: “After much discussion and with deep regret, we are therefore undertaking a reorganization of Supermassive Games. As a result, we are entering a period of consultation, which we expect will result in the loss of some of our colleagues.” It then claims that efforts were made to avoid such an outcome and those affected will be treated “with respect and compassion”. For many years now, Supermassive Games has been working on The Dark Pictures Anthology while releasing a few standalone titles such as The Quarry. Just a few months ago, he announced the job to a player Dead by Daylight game, and also has the next game Dark Pictures Directive 8020 in development for PS5, PS4. It’s unclear how much of an impact those layoffs will have on the two confirmed projects. The team’s biggest hit to date, Until Dawn, will be remastered for PS5 and PC later this year, although they are not the developer working on the project.
