The “r” word is popping up everywhere right now. In fact, we focus so hard on the term “retro” that I’m starting to wonder if we’re forgetting to look for something new. Actually… this statement is only half true. If retro done right you can take some very classic ideas and put a very modern spin on them. Something doesn’t have to be a copy of the game you played in 1992 to be good. The only important thing is that it is needed touch like that game you used to play and love back then. This is where this genre thrives and why players love it so much and keep coming back for more. Today’s game is Hell and it’s very new, but not, at the same time.

Sourced from folk over at Bezerk Studio and published by The Arcade Crew, Hell is a retro action-adventure centered around his character Alcedor. This famous knight discovers on his return from the crusade that unholy magic is spreading in his lands. Armed with his fetish knife and trusty shield Alcedor he vows to strike down the many beasts that now roam his home.

As in all good adventures, the experience and gold you earn by opening demons like tins can be spent to earn bonuses and improve Alcedorhis stats. You’ll also be able to unlock new weapons, allowing you to find interesting and creative ways to crack some skulls. What is not found in every classic adventure is a character who will have to make some pretty heavy moral choices. You should think carefully about how you deal with these situations, as they will affect the outcome of the game.

Hell is a side-scroller that will take you back to some of the most beloved adventures of the late 80s. saying this, Hell it also has a very open world. Some of the darker levels in the game are only for the most daring adventurers among you. There is treasure in these bleak places for those who are capable of finding it, so exploration is one of the game’s main strengths.

If you’re looking for some excitement and a brand new adventure, Hell it might just be the game for you. It is expected to be released early next year on PC, The Xbox family of consoles, PS4 and of course the Nintendo Switch. None of you will be left out if you need a little blood transfusion to carry you into the new year.
