It should retail for $549-$599US, but we’ll see
The RX 7900 GRE was originally intended only for the Chinese market, but is now available worldwide. On paper the card looks quite similar to the RX 6950, but it uses RDNA 3 instead of RDNA 2, the L3 cache is halved to 64MB, and the transistor count is greatly increased. The frequencies on the RX 7900 GRE, 1880 MHz Game and 2245 MHz Boost, are lower than the RX 6950 as well which also means that the power is noticeably reduced, from 335W to 260W.
Sebastian’s tests showed that the Sapphire model is faster than the old RX 6950, which often trades places with the RTX 4070 SUPER. FPS Review also had the opportunity to test the card and even managed to overclock it to boost clocks by 6%. Their tests included a number of games that we didn’t, so it’s definitely worth a look if you play Avatar or Assassin’s Creed. The RX 7900 GRE should handle any game you throw at it running at 1440p with all the bells and whistles on, and you should be able to enjoy 4K if you upgrade with FSR.
